CHILDHOOD memories flood back to plumber Paul Williams each time he mixes a batch of Blue Circle products on site.

The Welshman has fond memories of helping his father with cement-based work in childhood.

Now, the former Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering president has a strong network of customers around South Wales and is still mixing Blue Circle as needed.

“When I used to help my dad, years ago at his house, Blue Circle was the only cement we had,” Mr Williams said.

“It just tends to be one of those symbols that I remember from my childhood and when you go to buy products now it’s still there.

Welsh plumber Paul Williams has been familiar with Blue Circle since childhood.

“It’s been around a long time and it’s stood the test of time.”

Mr Williams said many plumbers used Blue Circle mortar and concrete products for a number of jobs.

“(We use the products) to patch up holes. You can seal them out when you’ve drilled them but normally we use (mortar) to fill them,” he said.

“Also, if you have an external boiler, you put a slab of concrete down.

“The other bit I do a lot of is cold water mains. When you dig internally, and access it inside, you’ve got to finish the floor and make it nice so concrete does come in handy there.”

Mr Williams revealed the variety of plumbing ignited his love for the trade and urged young people to consider a career in construction.

“Every day is different,” he said.

“The industry is changing, it’s evolving, so you need to keep up to date with the new trends and the new technology within the industry.

“It’s very, very rare that you’ll get the same job. Each customer is different as well which is a good experience to have because you do need to have good customer service.

“As a general plumber, it is a feel-good factor when you get something working and the customer is happy.”
