Our National Laboratory provides the high level of technical back up and support that helps us maintain the high quality standards you’ve come to expect from our range of bulk cements.

Based in Idyllic Staffordshire, Blue Circle maintains a state of the art UKAS accredited Cement National Laboratory, Staffed by an experienced team of scientists and technologists, our ‘NatLab’ carries our comprehensive physical and chemical tests on cement and products such as mortar and concrete.

This facility enables Blue Circle to respond rapidly and in an authoritative way to technical enquiries, providing a high level of technical backup and support to our works laboratories and to our customers, maintaining the high quality standards of all our products.

The Natlab is equipped with the latest analytical techniques including X-Ray Fluorescence, Ultra Violet spectrometry, Thermal Analysis and conventional wet chemistry and has ready access to quantitative X-Ray Diffraction (Rietveld) at the nearby Cauldon works laboratory

Physical testing includes, mixings, curing and testing concrete specimens for strength, heat of hydration and shrinkage measurement as well as detailed particle size analysis using Blaine, micro sieve or laser diffraction granulometry

Natlab carries out over 60 different types of tests on our cement crushing over 8,000 concrete cubes a year. These results help us concentrate on how our products behave in real conditions, the way our customers see them.
